I hate cleaning - that occasionally
includes my room too. I guess there are many more to accompany me ;-p. I happen
to write this blog soon after I planned to clean up my house. Few thoughts that
struck my mind which I would like to share
WHEN CLEAN UPS are JUST ABOUT CLEANING UP
THE PLACE, is it worth doing it?
I happen to interview a volunteer who just
bumped into Beach cleanups, which happens religiously by the Government every
year to promote awareness among public. I just want to be Devil’s advocate to
really know how important it is for him to clean up the beach.
I: why do you think u need to clean this
beach, when it’s going to be messy anytime now?
X: ya, my fellow human beings made this
mess. I’m just cleaning up once in a year, which is bare minimum that I can do.
I: But again there is gonna be trash here.
So what will u do about it?
X: You got to tell me what I can really do?
(Blank smile >>> no answer)
I: If you ask me, I would rather not trash
it or I would dispose it into the bin (least that one can do)
X:
Oyee, come to real world, who is gonna follow it?
I: okies, at least a handful will.
HOW
CAN YOU DECIDE WHICH SITE NEEDS CONSERVATION:
General strategy which is followed
throughout the world is:
> To collect the waste manually
>
Dump it to the nearest dump yard which is generally a wetland.
What are we actually doing here? If it’s just
all about collecting the waste from one preferred ecosystem that seeks help and
disposing it to other ecosystem which could need help. How will you know which
piece of land is more valuable? If the neat n plastic free campus is important
to you, then i’m concerned about the plastic free, if not at least
nonhazardous environment for the natives
of wetlands.
So what can we do about it?
Since the waste that are collected are
beyond the reduce strategy, It can be either recycled or reused. Any cleanup
would be better cleanup if the waste generated from its own site is fully
minimized, potentially possible resources are utilized at its own sites.
BETTER MANAGE IT THAN DISPOSE IT
